    Default Printer problem

    My Brother HL2230 laser printer shows "Offline" - I have checked the cables and they are both plugged in; I have gone over troubleshooting but could not go far as it got too technical for me (I have that problem with computers et al); tried Control Panel and clicked 'make printer online' as well as clearing out the documents I had tried to print. This is a fairly new printer and I do need it as I do a lot of printing. Any advice (not too technical please!) would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    Did it ever work and what Windows OS do you use?

    Wake it up by pressing the power button. Your PC will then find it for printing

    Thanks abseh. I have Windows XP and have used this printer quite often, until it suddenly showed 'offline' and refused to print. And I have hit the power button to no avail. I have even unplugged the pc from the wall socket and hoped that would give it a boost and get things connected! Frustration indeed.

    If the link that Joe gave you does not help...it is a good one
    ============================================
    Go to the printer properties and make sure there are not any print jobs waiting...if so clear them all

    Clearing any waiting prints jobs is an important step

    Then....I find the simplest solution is to remove the printer and then add the printer again....then go into properties and write down the port that it is using

    Normally removing and replacing the printer will fix the issue and you will know at what port it is located in the future

    Sometimes... you may need to restart the printer and the computer to pick up a new IP addy
