Post How to find out the cause of diskette player activity?

My computer has windows xp SP3.

All of a sudden the diskette player has started to be accessed for no apparent reason.

This is happening from the time the computer is started and windows xp loaded.

This computer has McAfee Total protection installed, but it was working ok and no change has been made to the antivirus.

The diskette player is empty (no diskette) and it starts whirling and making the noise that it makes when the head is trying to find or read a file.

This happens for some 10 seconds and then it stops only to begin again after around 1 minute.

Is it possible to find out what program / process is causing this ?

    Your help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Looking at the start up programs might provide a clue. Is it possible McAfee Total protection is scanning that drive ?

    Download HijackThis from Downloading HijackThis

•Save the file to the desktop, double click the file to install it
•It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
•Upon install, HijackThis should open for you.
•Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
•HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
Copy and then paste the entire contents of the log in your post.
Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
