    Hi CamaroZ28ny,

    Which operating system?

What were you doing? Typing into notepad, copy and pasting into notepad? Please provide as much detail as possible. Too much info is never enough in a situation like this.

    Thank you,
    Donna

Not all files can be viewed correctly by a "text" editor.

What if you right click on your desktop, select New > Text Document? That should open Notepad to a blank page. Then start typing normal text. Does it appear correctly?

If not, check Format > Font... . The default is Consolas, Regular, 11 but you can change it to Courier, Times New Roman or whatever you want.

I copy a file off of the internet, And saved the file to my desk top. Then I open it up in notepad and it appear as weird Symbols.

But when i make a text note just saying Hello. I can read it, without any weird symbols. So its just off of the internet it comes in Weird Symbols.

What type of file extension does the file that you copied off the internet have?

To find out what type of file it is, right click on the file then click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

Look for where it says > Type of file:

    What does it say?

Well, that is why. .png are graphics files or images. You cannot view them with Notepad. You need a program like Windows own Photo Viewer. Most browsers let you view them too.
