Default Playing video on TV via USB

My TV should be capable of playing .MP4 and AVI files on a USB drive but sometimes i get a message saying unsupported file format. At first it was just an occasional problem but now it is happening more often. It has become so bad that only about 10% of my videos will play. They are all either AVI or .MP4 so i don't understand why it plays some but not others.

Have you verified the videos still play properly on other devices (like your computer)? They may have become corrupt, or the USB device itself may be failing.

Don't know what to suggest. If me, with no stick installed, I would unplug the TV from the wall for about 30 seconds. This is the only way to totally reboot the TV. TVs these days are basically dedicated computers with an integrated tuner and a big screen. And when simply turned off, they are really in standby mode, not "off".

Then plug it in and power it on and see what happens.

I would also make sure I had backup copies of the videos.
