    I know NOTHING about computers!I just got a virus(or worm, or whatever!)and now the computer occasionally freezes up.My brother tried to fix it and now i have no volume & on top of that, the cd player don't work!!I;ve been told that i need to erase everything in the computer & start it up again.(It's Windows 98) What EXACTLY do i do?HELP!!!(P.S. No, i was not using an anti-virus program.Was that dumb or what!

    There are a couple of things you can try first before taking the drastic step of reformatting.
    First either download and run an antivirs program. I recommend the free and excellent AVG program from http://www.grisoft.com.
    Once that has run download and run Adaware from http://www.lavasoftusa.com
    These two programs will rid your system of viruses and any nasty spyware that may be lurking on your system.
    Once all this is done do the following.
    Click Start>run type sfc.exe then click OK
    This will check you system for any corrupt files and if found prompt for the Windows CD or the program CD. (Some files may belong to programs you downloaded. In that case reinstall the program)
    Reinstall windows.
    You should have a working system now.
