My computer died the other day and now wont boot up. When I turn it on I hear a wirring and a beep but nothing happens. There is no communication at all with the monitor--I have tried two so I know the monitor is NOT the problem. What do I do to diagnose the problem further?

The whirring is probably the hard drive spinnng. One beep is indicating that your ram memory is faulty or loose in it's socket.
This can vary depending of the bios type you have
If your Bios is AMI have a look at http://www.sysopt.com/biosbmc.html
