since I upgraded 6 months ago from windows 98 to 2000. I have had nothing but problems with my scanner. the new drivers won't work. So I finally got another scanner that is 2000 friendly. I installed it and when I tried to open it it says it can't find the scanner. and up until now the printer used to work. but no longer does.
can you please give me a plan for installation. such as
    the printer plugs into------
    and
    the scanner plugs into-------

I think I had the printer plugging into the scanner or vice verse. HELP I need them both.
    thanks

    Have a little patience.
We are interested in answering questions but we do it for nothing on our own time.
As for you printer/scanner problemoving to win 2000 may mean the drivers for both will not work.
You need to download and install win2000/XP or NT drivers for both.
I will assume both are Parallel port connected.
Piggy backing does not always work. It depends on the brands and their mix. It is a matter of trial and error which way works best.
If you have problems I suggest you buy an add on port card which will give you extra parallel and com ports so you can connect each device individually.

thanks so much for your help. Sorry I seemed impatient. I call it stressed, been that way all my life. I know you guys are a great help to us, and I do appreciate your time.
NOW PLEASE COME TO MY HOUSE AND FIX THIS THING.
just kidding. I have printed out your instructions and will see if my son can figure it out with me.
    Thanks again

Used to have this problem until I
    discovered something : 'The computer
isn't all that smart '.Check this out..
My O.S is win 95 and my printer is
connected to the scanner and the latter
connected to the computer. Since the
    printer /scanner arrangerment wasn't
often used I placed the the power
cords for both of them on a switched
power strip and the computer on a U P S.
If I want to scan something I must first
switch on the power strip before Bootup
of the computer or I'll see an X across
the scanner icon and a message : Scanner
can't be found. Seams as though if when
the Old Geezer wakes up and doesn't see
a scanner it rules it out despite the
fact that it was subsequently activated.
Another thing I noticed was: Let's say that
the scanner was activated before Bootup
and prior to shutting down the computer
I switched off the scanner .....a funny
thing happens : the computer freezes and
refuses to heed the shutdown command .
Don't ask me the reason - leave that to
my buddies Whoozhe and others. All I can
say is that the Oldman seems darn smarter
than this Gizmo. When I wake up in the
morning and can't find my spectacles I
don't denying having one ...I look for
    the Son-of-a-gun. Don't get impatient..
long after I am gone Whoozhe and the
other guys will find a way to make this
THING as simple as the Abacus . Have a
glass of red wine and relax. Bye.
