I am having a problem with sound. One of the kids installed a game and we started having resource problems. The game has been uninstalled and the resource problem went away. The problem now is that I have no sound from any web-site, mp3, or game being played. I have 2 CD-ROMs. One is cd-writer and the other is Read Only. The cd-writer will play a CD with sound. The Read-Only will not. I am runnin Win 98 2nd. I have checked the Device Manager and tried to reload the driver. I don't know what else to check.

Chances are the game was a dos based one and has added commands to either the autoexec.bat or config.sys files.
Win 98 really doesn't need either so rename both.
    Remove the sound card, reboot.
Replace the card and boot up again.
This should fix the problem with the least hassles

Deleting the sound card and adding it back worked fine.
