    Every now and again my pc crashes and i take it to the pc Dr and all he has to do is reset the settings (he says that the battery is wareing out,its a old pc)and its fine again but last time he forgot to set/turn on the sound and i now havent any sound.
    Can you tell me how to do it.....

    Take it back.
    There could be a dozen reason why sound is gone from bios settings to the sound card.

    Why do I have sound when I play some games and not others. I also don't have any sound when I go online.

    Chances are then that some dos based game has altered the configuration. Most probable is entries added to the autoexec.bat file.
    This is generally caused by badly written games, especially DOS based games.
    Rename both autoexec.bat and config.sys files
    Reinstall your sound card drivers.
