I run my Access database over a VPN and it has been freezing up on users in the middle of entering information. In this case, when it does that it corrupts the database. Why is the database freezing on the workstations?

This problem indicates a poor connection to the Internet and is the greatest problem faced by most users.
A full 56K connection is the absolute minimum.
Your ISP can also be an issue. Smaller and cheaper ISP's often cut corner's to save costs - hence the reason they are cheaper
For a better VPN consider cable or ADSL
