    Default reloading windows 98

    Hello,

To clean up my system via a refreah of windoes 98, i get a message partially in the setup asking me to shut down all other programs by using the alt/tab key to see wot is open. When doing this, i find nothing is open and the setup wont continue. Do i have a phantom program lurking somewhere in the background? any easy way of determining wot is still open?
    Thanks again for your time,
    Tiberius

Try pushing Ctrl+Alt+Del, which should open the Close Program Dialog Box. Then close all running programs except explorer and system tray.

A reinstallation of Windows over an existing copy will not "clean" up your system. What a reinstallation does is overwrite and replace any corrupt system files.
    Don't expect any significant improvement.
If you have been running a computer for 12 months or so the ideal approach is to reformat the drive and install a completely fresh copy of windows then apply any Upgrades (Service Packs) to bring the OS up to date. Then reinstall your software.
This is the only fullproof way of getting your system back to peak performance.
Oh back up your data, mp3's etc before you do this.
Do this annually and you future problems will be minimized.
