    Default AOL & Router

    hi
    Recently bought a netgear MR814 wireless router but finally found out they aren't comparable because i am using AOL :roll: Why is that?? And does any one know which wireless router work with AOL!!

    The fact is AOL is not the internet.
    AOL is a propietry online service that uses it's own system and provides a gateway to the net via it's own system.
    It does not use the standard TCP/IP protocols.
    Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.

    whoozhe is correct, but you can use AOL in conjuction with the router, it is not a matter of compatability, but a matter of how you access the internet. The router must be plugged into a modem (cable/DSL) in order to access the internet. I use AOL at home, in the office with a router, and on the road via available local dialups, but use the Adelpia Cable system for access to the internet at home and in the office. What type of internet service do you have? If it is AOL High Speed Cable you can also use the router, but, again, you must have a cable modem to direct the data to the router. Router then directs data to the wireless LAN card in you computer.
    If you are using AOL via a dialup service (or using any dialup service, not just AOL), you cannot use the router.
