There are a number of possible causes for frozen computers apart from puting them in a freezer.

It can be either software or hardware related.

The most common Software cause is corrupt files or drivers.
These can be fixed by booting up in Safe Mode (win98/me) and carrying out various tasks using the tools located in Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools. eg scan disk
Also by clicking Start>Run type in sfc.exe then clicking OK.
This will scan for corrupt files and prompt for the software CD if needed.
With XP boot up with the XP CD and when the menu appears press R. This will start the Recovery Console.
    Alternatively reinstall windows.
Hardware can be just about anything but most common is memory failure and over heated CPU.
Check inside the box for loose connections, clean out the dust.
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.
