    Default hijack this

I am trying to re-install hijackthis.

I downloaded the 7 zip program first, however, when I try to download hijackthis, I either get the error this page is missing, etc. or if I get something I CAN save, my PC is trying to open it automatically with windows media player.

Can you direct me on this please?

I meant the "7-zip" unzip utility. It worked the last time I did this a month or so ago. I had to use my system restoration CD and I had to re-download the 7-zip and hijack this along with a few others recommended on this website.

The hijackthis seems to want to be opened by my windows media player (automatically) instead. I am at a loss for what to do next.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Hi

Not sure if I can help here.....

Do you have any zip files on your computer ?

Can you open them ? or do they all try to open in media player ?

If they do then you need to associate zip files with your unzip program... not media player.

The bit I don't understand is media player opening when you try to download something, if this is the case, then it is something far more complicated.

Default zip files and highjack this

    Steamwiz -

I had one file in my zip file from a prior time. It was in my zip file with a windows media player icon over it. I "right clicked" it and "opened archive". The 7-zip allowed me to open the file with THIS utility instead of media player.

So, this is good but not great. Is there something I can do check this out further? How do I set zip files to be associated with the unzip program AUTOMATICALLY (as in upon download?) The "hijackthis1977" file is still sitting in my windows media player.

    HI

I am still confused by your post....

Are you saying that the default download directory is your windows media player ?

Do you use a download manager ?

When you click a download ... do you get the box below ?

Click the arrow for the drop down list and you should be able to save it where you want to.

Steam - I DO get the File Dowload box. It worked just fine when I downloaded spybot S&D, Ad-aware, Spyblaster and the 7-zip. I saved them to desktop or c: drive as appropriate. Then I went to download hijackthis and when I went to "save" , from the File dowload box, it automatically opened into the Windows media player. I'm confused.

Could it be the source document? I tried a couple different places to dowload from. I either get a message that it could not find it withe the assorted things to try (like "refresh", check address, etc) or most recently this one which would download but to a wierd spot.
