CPU 100%
i have windows XP, 2.6 Ghz pentium and 512mb Ram. keep getting 100% CPU and slowing everything down and then crashing. There are 13572 handles, 603 threads, 53 processes. Does this mean anything?? P.S this is the case even when only on internet.

Does this happen only when you open or close a specific program? Some programs will hang up when opening or closing and cause a high cpu%. Go back into the task manager where you got the info about threads and handles. Click on the tab that says processes. Under the heading of CPU, it will show the % of CPU use for each process. That will tell you where it is going. Let us know and someone zero in on the cause. Charlie

Nice one pal! The file is called gpnbrcgm.exe and takes 99 CPU! If that means anything. I closed it but another one started called system idle process which then took up a lot of CPU usage when the first one closes.

The system idle process just shows what you are not using. I'm not sure what the gpnbrcgm.exe program is. Does it start everytime you start your computer? If it does, someone will figure out what it is and how to take care of it. When just surfing the web, I run about 2 to 4% on a amd 2 ghz processor. Charlie

Go to "Start" >Run > type in "msconfig" without quotes>Start up tab.
See if you can find it as a program starting up.
Please check your spelling - I can't find anything like this entry.
Cheers

HI
Find the file in your system32 folder
and go here :- http://www.kaspersky.com/remoteviruschk.html
and upload it.
Post the results.
And if that comes up clean
Try this :-
http://virusscan.jotti.dhs.org/
post any results
That should tell us what it is
Being a random filename, it's probably a trojan, does it have access to the net through your firewall ? do you have a firewall ?

i Posted the file on the web site and its said its a Trojan.
it come packed with PECompact and infected by trojandownloader.win32.dluca.y
would it be ok to just delete it off my computer as spybot and adware dont detect it.
