Default Sony PC CPU running at 100% - ALL the time!

My brothers Sony Vaio PC (not laptop) is always having problems, Right now the CPU (a 1ghz AMD) runs at 100% all the time. This is a WinME machine. His kids are home during the day doing whatever, so please consider that.

I had ZoneAlarm on it and they didn't like that, so... They do have Norton Antivirus running. I've run SpyBot and deleted everything that was found. I also deleted 250mb of temporary internet files!

Can anybody tell me what else to look for to straighten this thing up?

    Many thanks!

Default Sony PC CPU running at 100% - ALL the time!

Sorry about the delay... my monitor went kaput Saturday! Ugh...

Anyway, here's what my nephew says was running on the Sony Vaio when I called him. He was online at the time, so there are some files pertaining to that...

    Explorer
    Netbde
    Aim
    ypager
    ybrwicon
    ycommon
    wuauclt
    cmanager
    Enternet
    Ccd
    Cfd
    Vaserv
    Aimwdinstall
    Navapw32
    A

When I was there last week, I deleted all but the important files and I even went into MSconfig and stopped a few programs from starting. Nothing helped.

    Any more ideas?

    Hi

I see you have "A" running

If it is this (it could be your problem)...

    Run: [systray] C:\WINDOWS\System32\a.exe

Post a hijackthis log ... for us to look at...

Also without a firewall ... you could be letting any number of trojans on to your computer ... and not even know...

Default Sony PC CPU running at 100% - ALL the time!

I can do a ctrl-alt-del and stop the "A". But this doesn't stop the CPU from running at 100%.

I have no idea what a "hijackthis" log is... Where do I get this software?

As far as a firewall goes, remember - this is my brothers computer and his kids rule it. I had ZoneAlarm on it, but they hated it, so off it went!

Have your brother read and follow all the instructions given here IF he can.

    http://www.help2go.com/postt8026.html

At least copy this program from a working PC onto a disk and run it on the bad PC:

    Hijackthis >>>> Download<<<< click here

If you download from anywhere else, make sure you are running the new version 1.98.0

Do not delete anything yet, as most things hijackthis finds are harmless and needed.

Cut and paste this log. Please post this HJT log to this topic, not start a new topic.

    Cheers

It's been a long day doing all that scanning! But I guess I was lucky to be able to be on his computer all day instead of leaving it up to him to do it.

    I couldn't find the swin32.dll to remove...

The TVMedia files and folder will NOT allow me to delete them.

Everything else has been accomplished and the CPU continues to run at 100%...
