Default keeps wanting to shutdown or sleep, or hibernate

At first, it would just go right to hibernation w/o asking. I eventually told it to do nothing in the power options. Is there a way to fix keyboard driver? Every time I strike a key it asks if I want to shutdown. What driver does anyone think is corrupted and can just a driver be reinstalled easily without doing a re-installation of Windows. I gave up on system restore long ago. For now, I have turned off all power options so can type. Is it the keyboard driver or a an XP kernel or neither? I am a Melvin when using computers. I always crash them.:-)

This is probably corrupted Power management.
Windows Power Management is hopeless at the best of times. It only requires a small glinch in a system to fail.
I suggest you just do not use it.
Click Start > Control Panel > Power Options and disable Hibernation. You can still use the power down utitlities.
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.

Thanks. Your suggestion makes a lot of sense and power management in Windows seems to have always been flakey through the years.
