    Default Exe file Norton Threat

    C\program files\common files\updater\wupdater.exe

Repeated scans by Norton identifies it as a threat and I can't seem to delete it despite various methods.

This is the data about it. There were originally about 5 files under this files including the following and all of these were identified by Norton as threats also I deleted these.

    delupedat.exe

    sui.exe

    updaterinstall_112.exe

The exe file was created 6 am 11\15\2003

    60KB

    file version 1.3.5.0

Adware.Keenval (some places it's spelled Keenvalue) at risk threat file

When I re-booted the computer a little box came up that said data in updater not available.

On-line Symantec Security says that I should be able to find Keenvalue under C:\Program Files\Common Files\KeenValue but it isn't there.

It also says it should be on the Control Panel Ad\Remove and it isn't there.

Do you have this updater file on your computer C drive?

    Is it an essential file?

It obviously came in from a CD that I copied from.

How serious is this? Norton has a box to exclude this file from future scans but I hate to do that if it will cause more of a problem

I've never submitted so need help with how to do this!

    Hi

Step 5 (in the link posted by galena1 above) ... post a hijackthis log....

You need to delete the updater folder

My guess is you cannot delete the updater folder because the wupdater.exe is running

It is being run by this run key :-

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\Updater\wupdater.exe

run hijackthis and you will see this key ... fix it with hijackthis and reboot ... it will no longer be running and you should be able to delete the folder.

Or you could just post your hijackthis log and we can check it out for you.

    cheers
