Hi Biz - if you go to the second link Post 16, option 4, I read this as an option to d/l v8. Maybe I've got hold of the wrong end of the stick and DirectX8 Runtime is not JUST Direct X8. Happy for clarification on this from anywhere. Regards

HI for your graphics drivers see below

    NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64
    See link below tells you
"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.
Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

[Here] see driver installation hints first below
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_...ion_hints.html

    For driver update
    http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

when you go to link above you will see 3 boxes, just [pick graphics card], then in next box [card TNT2], Then next box [system ]
May-be i have read this wrong but i thought that once you have downloaded drivers for your graphics card you can then download
Directx9 from microsoft updates site, wait for conformation to make sure this is correct. [is the above driver the one you tried before]

    Regards Stoney

Your reply appreciated! I believe you are correct in saying that the runtime download for 8 is not just Directx just as the 9 Runtime is not just 9, but just a “tune” up shall we say? Please check out http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/r...DisplayLang=en. I see nothing there that says just 8 or 8.1. I’m just sure I seen on the MS site just yesterday that 8.1 is no longer being offered, now even doing a search of my history I can’t find it. However I have located http://www.soft32.com/download_250.html that offers just 8.1 free and wonder if it would be safe to download from there? Your PC pal, Biz

    HI Biz

Did you download the Driver from nvidia, i would have thought that if you have then you could then download Directx9 from windows update
my System is quite old 98se and i am running
NVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro 32 and Microsoft Directx9, and it works fine

But if you want the Directx8.1 the link you put in for that looks OK
    It says publisher Micrososft
AS far as i know DirectX runtime is DirectX

If you see post # 18 by osc, and like Galena said turn on a "System Restore" point before installing.

    Regards Stoney

Hello, All. Problem solved!! As it turns out, the reason for my problem to begin with is that my OS was corrupted, (Nvidia, System Restore and who knows what else) and that it went undetected until I attempted to update Nvidia Directx from a site as update was not listed in MS Updates. After restoration of OS, I was able to upgrade from the original 7.1 version to the 8.1. Then, checking MS Updates, the option to upgrade to 9.0c Runtime “appeared”. (I suspect that it had not shown up before due to the corruption). With that downloaded and tested, I should be in great shape to enjoy that 3D screensaver! I would like to thank Help2Go and all the Moderators who worked so hard to help me resolve the problem. It took the input of all of you to piece it together. [img] [/img] Ever Grateful, Biz
