Default How to rename a removable drive?

Is it possible to rename a removable drive? I don't have a floppy drive on my computer but need one. Someone told me I could rename a removable flash drive and designate it as an A drive. How do I go about doing this?

The "A" and "B" drive names are usually reserved by the OS for a floppy. I run no floppy in my Dell laptop, my flash drive shows up as "D" and runs just fine. Why would you find it necessary to rename a flash drive to "A"?

I'm taking a class on cd-rom that automatically saves quiz results to the A:drive. I can't configure it to save the results to a different drive so I was wanting to change the removable drive's letter to A: so I can save the results.

    Here's another way (quite easier)...

Start Menu | Run | type CMD and hit "ok" or press enter.

once at the command prompt take a look at the Subst command (type "subst /?" (no quotes) and hit enter)
