Default Reformat or restore a hard drive

I have an old compaq that seems to run slower than it should and it is full of spyware, adware, and who knows what else. I wanted to try and salvage it by reformatting the hard drive and reloading the operating system. I no longer have the original COMPAQ software CDs the operating system/restore. I tried using the software CDs from my Presario 6000 to restore, but the Presario 4880 wouldn't recognize the CDs.

So, I guess my question is how to reformat this hard drive? I am probably a beginner to intermediate in my understanding on how these things work.

    Thanks for any help!!

Reformating is easy, but since you do not have the Op system disk just not going to work. You just can't use any old Op system disk.

Suggest that you go to our spyware forum and do every thing listed in the
