Default question regarding the (annoying) text pop-ups

I've found lately that I'm running into a set of pop-ups when I'm not even on the internet. These pop-ups have a grey background and simple text messages...usually advertising security risks with certain operating systems. They seem harmless, yet annoying, and I'm wondering if there's a "sure fire way" to eliminate them all together. My pop-up blocker seems ineffective to the problem.....any thoughts?

    Ps.......yes, I changed my icon.............I'm bored...........lol

    thanx in advance,
    StoneO

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but it sounds like it.

Sounds like you have some spyware/malware StoneO. You've been around long enough so you don't need the antivirus/firewall speach. Create a HJT log and run it through the Help2go Detective in the Sectons area on the top left of this page. After that, if you want to double check post your new log here. The Detective does find a lot, but the imput of the 100's of varients out there still is still going on, so it's not 100% and probably never will be .. Steam's job is secure for many years to come

    You can also do this:

-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard.
