    Default Can not get animated gif files to work in any of my browsers

    I hesitate posting this, but, either I'm getting closer to senility or I'm going crazy as this just came out of the blue. Normally I can fix these things, but I'm burned out on this stuff lately. I'm posting here because you guys are GOOD! I think it's more of a PC problem than a HTML editing problem as I had not made any changes to website during this period of time.

    Two problems (actually more, but if I get these fix the others will fall into place) :

    1) Four days ago all my browsers quit showing any animated gif files on the Web. Have spent hours trying to track down this problem of why the change. I have checked and rechecked each browser's internet options which were never changed. Have dumped everything in the Windows temporary internet files after emptying cache for each browser produced no results.

    All browsers have no problem showing these files locally by dragging/dropping files from hard drive into each browser window. HTML Editor has no problem either on all files which are duplicates of files on my Website. All animations work fine this way.

    2) This showed up at the same time when checking problem 1 out : Noticed several images were not showing on page where animation was not working. For example, this is what I have that's near the bottom of page copy/pasted from file on PC which was uploaded to site long ago :

    <div>
    [img]images/img_log03.gif[/img]
    </div>

    This is what I have on Website :

    <div>
    [img]images/img_log03.gif[/img]
    </div>

    Notice the image tag information has been stripped away from w3.org. Some of the bottom two image tags for sponsors, etc, on my page have been stripped away too. These I'm not concerned about at the moment.

    All this has also affected my other Website at Geocities with the same problems! Only there I can use Yahoo's File Manager and actually check/edit the file that's on their server. All the info is there, yet when I view the source, the image tags are stripped away for the same images again.

    I would be happy to get problem #1 fixed right now if noone wants to tackle problem #2.

    My brain is getting numb and I'm starting to drool. Can't think of anything else to check or do. I'm sure you guys will come up with new ideas as well as correct the problem(s).

    Thanks in advance.

    Ron

    Windows Me has system restore . Try going back to a time before the problem popped up. I'm using Xp, but I believe you get there through the control panel on ME. Charlie

    Sorry. Forgot to mention that I did that and no change. All my animated gif files work fine except in any of my browsers when I'm online and viewing any of those types. They work fine when I'm previewing images in the folder "My Pictures", they work ok when I drag and drop an exact duplicate of the file I have on my website containing bunches of animated gif files into any one of the three browser windows from a directory I keep on my PC, they work fine in my e-mail, I can even go to my website and use view source, copy/paste THAT file into an html document and drag/drop it into my browser windows and they work!

    I am hoping someone knows why they just quit working when I'm online and viewing sites with animated gifs yet work fine locally are when doing all the tricks mentioned above. Looked through Program Manager even, but didn't come up with anything. I'm like you, system restore to a much earlier date should have done the trick.

    I've even gone to a lot of online browser diagnostic sites to make sure everything was turned on and is as it should be.

    Thanks and hope you have some more ideas up your sleeve.
