Default Unable to view secure sites due to Internet Security

My Norton Internet Security software expired last year and has not been updated. Because of this I am unable to view secure internet sites. When I try to check the Norton Internet Security settings, the message "You do not have the necessary rights to configure the item you have double clicked." I am also unable to uninstall the software, again because I do not have the administrator password.
Is there any way to get around this so I can access secure sites, other than buying a new subscription?

you could probably try booting the pc into safemode and uninstalling the program there.

Reboot the computer and tap the f8 button when you see the "windows xp is laoding" screen. Then select safemode from the menu.
