I have practically no pop ups with Mozilla. You can go to this post to kill the messenger service that is used by many pop ups.

You probably have spyware and adware on your computer generating the pop ups. Try going to this article and following the directions to clean your computer.

In addition to SpyBot and AdAware, I also recommend Spyblaster, available here

The first thing to do is disable Windows Messenger. I wrote an aticle on that you can find in the Articles & Tutorials section under Dangers To Your PC.
Also it is worth visiting www.blackviper.com and follow his recommendations in adjusting the services windows provide.
I decent firewall is also a major factor Zone Alarm does a great job. Buying the Pro version allows more flexabilty in stopping all unwanted ads and pop ups.
Finally get Mozilla and use it's built in pop up stopper, which is also configurable.
Configurability is the key here. Many sites use Pop Up windows for legitimate reasons and many pop up stoppers are too aggressive. EG My bank has a pop up window for a securely logging in.
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.

If you are sure your computer is free of spy-ware & ad-ware try sygate firewall. My computer runs XP Pro. The XP firewall is off & sygate keeps everything out. The firewall is free and easy to tailor to your requirements.

    Download the software from www.sygate.com

Once you have the software WORK OFFLINE. Turn off XP firewall & install sygate.
    Hope this helps

Jack, you have not given any feed back to let us know if you fixed your problem, but I am going to add some more info for anyone else that might have come to this post. Mozilla has a very good pop up blocker built in. If you are using Mozilla and still getting pop ups, the pop ups are coming from inside your computer, not from the internet. They got there because you invited them in and gave them permission to do what they do. Any time you download something that has a box of small print with a box to check that says "I agree" or "I accept", you should take the time to scroll through it to see what you are agreeing to. Many times you will find that you are giving them permission to install advertising software on your computer and download ads to your harddrive. The best pop up stopper in the world won't catch those. You need to clean your system by following the info in this article: http://www.help2go.com/article217.html
The SpyBot and AdAware scans are probably the most important, but the virus scans and the HiJack log will possible find additional problems. Once it is clean, I recommend installing SpywareBlaster from here:
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
It will keep most spyware and adware from installling on your computer. But you must remember that no matter what anti spyware or anti-virus program you run, the best protection you have is by using your head. Charlie
