    Default System File Checker problem

    Hello,

I have run System File Checker on two computers running Windows 98 Second Edition and both computers are coming up with the following message:

    *
System File Checker has identified that the following file may be corrupted.

    File: setupx.dll
    Location: C:\\Windows\system

    Do you want to:

    Update verification information

    Ignore

    Restore

    *

This is the information part from SFC log file:

    Previous Previous New New CRC
File Change Version Date Version Date Match
    ---------------- ----------- ----------- --------- ----------- --------- ------
    setupx.dll Ignored 4.10.2222 23/04/99 4.10.2222 23/04/99 No

I can’t understand why this file is corrupt as I reformatted and installed all software/hardware ok on both.

Has this file been updated since I installed software on to each computer after installing Win 98 SE? Is SFC referring to the default file installed with Win 98 SE?

Can someone advise me on what to do?

    Thanks

    Hello death_seeker.
Given that you have recently posted questions about XP, are these clean installs or are you setting up dual boot?
Use the original installation disk to check your system files. The link below should give you better advice than I can.
Hope this helps, let us know.

When we ask about clean installs did you format the drive before installing?
Also did you use the same installation disk on both installs?
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.

hmm...don't know why I haven't seen this topic before but, no need to worry about it. It was a bug in the Windows 98 SFC.exe program. Do a search on google, you'll see.
