HI dsr17
i have used AVG 7 Free and Firefox my firewall is McAfree and has
good tracking capabilites one of the problems is with xp is that when
i have been to ebay uk in the past my firewall tells me who has scanned
my pc one address from russia keeps scaning my pc to see if any ports
are open and then it scans port 80 to try to get access to my pc.
once it through 310 viruses at me in 10 minutes on port 80 and slowed my pc to a halt the only thing i can think is that they got my ip address
when on ebay uk and landed something on my pc to do this.
this is why i am getting sick of the security floors in xp.
and fancied something better than xp like linux.
i know that linux will be a new ballgame for me..
I get the feeling that you have decided on Linux and just want reassurance!
See post 9. I entered it before I logged in. Just try it.
As far as eBay is concerned, no chance!
I logon to eBay uk upto 3 times a week. No problems and no viruses.
You have to use a firewall, anti virus and anti spyware all at the same time.
I have Sygate, Norton and AdWare on XP. My system works. The computer is often scanned but nothing gets onto my system.
Remember scanning a computer port is rather like walking down a street and looking at someones front door. If it's open you can get in. If it's shut you move on.
