When I attempt to install the downloaded updates, nothing happens. It says initializing installer but never advances past that. BITS is started and nothing on Microsoft's web site seems to help.
I am running XP sp2 on a Dell Deminsion 4700. Any ideas?

What updates? any Seervice packs? If SP1, i had to wait to download and install but the install part takes long at one point!
The critical updates that Microsoft sends out frequently. It was working fine last fall when it updated to SP2 but, it will not install any of the updates now.Quote:

Method : Clean old Windows update temporary files:
1) Click on Start and select Run
2) Type in services.msc and click OK
3) Double click on Automatic Updates and click on the Stop Button
4) Double click on Background Intelligent Transfer Service and click on the
Stop Button
5) Close the services windows
6) Click on My Computer > Local Disk C: > Windows
7) Right Click on the SoftwareDistribution folder and select Rename
8) Change the name from SoftwareDistribution to SoftwaredistributionOld
9) Double click on system32 folder
10) Right Click on CatRoot2 folder and select Rename. Change the name to
CatRoot2Old
11) Restart the system and try the automatic updates again.
