    Default Epson Printer Trouble

My printer (Epson 830u) won't recognise the ink cartridges I'm using, i never had trouble till now and I've been using the same brand "IM Jet" all along. The last time the black ran I went to change as normal but now I keep getting a message saying "Cartridge is installed incorrectly". I've tried 6 differant carts and none will work. Any ideas please?
The printer is only 6 months old.

Look where the cartridge goes to make sure there isn't a piece of paper, tape or any other foreign object stuck in the slot where the cartridge goes. If that doesn't work, and they seem to mount properly, you may want to try an Epson brand cartridge just to rule out the third party cartridges as the source of the problem (if you call Epson, they will no doubt blame it on the other brand of cartridge). Had a look for foregin objects and the cart seems to be fitting right. I haven't tried an epson cart but I did put back in the cart that was nearly out of ink (orignal one i took out) and it worked then tried a new cart again and still the same

Even though it says that its installed incorrectly, can you print with it? If not and an original cartridge does work, I'd say that either you've got the wrong replacement or it's a faulty cartridge. Double check that it's the right replacement, if it is, see if you can exchange it for another and if that doesn't do the job, look for another make of replacement or have your old ones refilled.

I have the correct replacements carts and I can't print with it, the colour cart is showing fine and thats an IM Jet too. I've tried 6 differant black carts 3 I had here and I got 3 more replacements but they were the same, I tried a Zap It gadget too but nothing so I'm guessing maybe the problem is with the contacts that touch the chip??

It could very well be. How old is your printer? Sometimes it's cheaper to go out and buy a new one .. certainly doesn't pay to have them repaired. Take a look here http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/28266 .

Try cleaning the contacts on the printer with a Q-Tip and some kind of fast drying inert thinners (methylated spirits would be my choice).
If you are a smoker DO NOT DO THIS INDOORS! Let it dry out and then try again.
You might want to think about a cleaning cartridge. As I don't know where in the world you are the link below should give you some ideas about what to look for.

    http://www.cartridgesave.co.uk/T027201-CLN.html

I am assuming that when you fitted the carts you did all the usual stuff (i.e. alignment, nozzle clean etc.).
Did you try Epson on the web?

    http://www.epson.com/

Having said all that the problem appears to be the cart you are using. Can you tell if the cart design has changed? If so that could be the problem.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards guy9663.
