    Default need a program

Ok, last week, I was looking around and I found an article or post somewhere about a program that gives a lot more detail about running processes on the pc. I didn't download the program and now can't find it again. I can't remember if it was somewhere on this site or on pcworld. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or have any other programs to suggest?

My pc usage % keeps going up really high and I have like 40 processes running. I want to know which one's aren't necessary. I can tell some of them by the name, but most of them I'm not sure about.

    thanks,
    Leah

Don't know if it matters, but I forgot to login before I posted so it says I'm a guest.

Also thought I would mention I downloaded prcview.exe and it doesn't really show what I think the other program would.

You can go to Black Viper here . Make sure you read his instructions before changing your settings. I would suggest you select the settings in the SAFE column unless you are into heavy gaming. The safe settings should cut down the unnecessary window services running in the background.

I am a fan of this Sysinternals process viewer:
    http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...sExplorer.html
It runs on NT/2000/XP and also 32 bit versions of Server 2003.

Sysinternals actually has a few other process viewer utilities which are free; some have a GUI and some are run from the command line.

Thank you for this link!! This program does more, I think, than the one I originally looked at. I especially like that you can google the process to find even more abot what it does.

Ok, so there is this process called csrss.exe running on my computer. I right clicked and did a google search and it says that the process is a legitimate windows file OR oculd be a worm or torjan.

    http://www.liutilities.com/products/...library/csrss/

When I look at the properties in the process explorer, it's empty. It doesn't say where it's located or anything. So, does that mean it is the worm or trojan?
