Try cleaning the CD drive lens with a qulaity CD cleaning disk. Some debris may be tricking the drive into believing it has a disk inserted.
Disconnecting the drive and reinstalling it will fix the problem.
The Drive thinks it has a CD in it so it is not refreshing correctly.
This can happen if Autoplay is active when using most burning software.
Reinstall the drives but this time disable Autoplay via my computer by right clicking on the drive and choosing properties.
If all this fails consider replacing the drive. Drives are mechanical and when any mecahnical part goes wrong anything can happen. Repair is either impossible or cost more than replacement.
Remember all drives have a limited life. Cheaper drives can be very limited.
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.
