    Default Changing Icons

I have noticed that the Icon I have for Windows Explorer sometimes comes up as the Icon for Internet Explorer. Today the Icon for Disk Clean Up comes up as the Icon for Defragmenter. In each case, the Icons seem to point to the proper place. Just wondering if this is a common thing or if it is a symptom of something wrong, or both.

    Default Tried It

Thanks, I tried downloading and opening the file. Got a message that I needed to turn on/and off. Restarted no change. Turned off and on. No change. By the way it is disk tune up (a bought program) rather than disk clean up (a windows XP program). Again thanks.

first of all, you have to increase the size of XP's icon cache.

You do this by navigating with regedit to:-

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

In the right hand pane, double click on MaxCachedIcons and set it to a larger value like 4096.

the vbs file you have allready run has set this value to 12,000

    So next try this :-

Right click the desktop > properties > appearance > advanced > desktop > icon > increase the size of the icons > OK > apply > "then wait" > advanced > desktop > icon > decrease back to the size you had before .... all corrupted icons should now be replaced by their orginal icons...
