Default files beginning $ in Windows folder

Can anyone explain why all of a sudden I have about 50 or so hidden files starting $MSI31 uninstall_etc , &NTServicePackUninstall$, $UninstallKB824146$, etc etc and also about 30 Windows Media profile files starting WMPrffor(etc).prx located in my Windows folder. I know they're hidden files but I still don't remember noticing them before. Can I delete these files? Thanks

    A Mackay

Are these the exact name of these files ? Best off to cut and paste them.

Right click on the file, click on properties. Are they from MS ? When were they created ? If they go back to about the time you installed the operating system/bought the PC, I would say they are OK. However remember if are MS these could be updates.

    Cheers :ยบ)

They are the uninstall files to each update from MS. If your PC is running smoothly you can delete. I would suggest you delete the older ones .. perhaps leaving the last 3 months (just in case you need to delete the updates) .. in 3 months all is running well delete them, I'm sure there will be new ones added as updates are released, wait 3 months then delete.
