Default IDE Slave Drive "not initialized"

I have a slave drive installed on my PC. I have used it for quite a while with no problems. Suddenly it does not show up in "My Computer", but it does show up in Disk Management. However in Disk Management it says it is not initialized. I do have the option to initialize if I right click on that drive. I do not want to lose the info on this drive so I have not initialized it. Anyone have any ideas?

First, check all of the connections, IDE cables and power plugs. Are you running XP? Try a system restore back to a time when it was working. Click on START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, SYSTEM RESTORE. Pick "restore to an earlier time". Pick a date in bold type before you had problems and click on it. System will reset itself. If that doesn't work, you can retrieve data from it before you initialize by using a Linux Live CD. Instructions in this article: http://www.help2go.com/article241.html

You can recovery documents, mp3, photos etc; not program files.
