    Default Internet Page loading problem

My computer seems to function well in all respects, except for it’s ability
To load pages on the Internet. It will work fine for a few minutes, then slowly
Cease to go to the next page when the link is clicked. When I can no longer
Go to the next page, I can close down, restart the computer, and resume
    Normal surfing.

I am running WIN XP home. It is a Sony Desktop with 512mb Ram, 140G
    HD.
I have Cox HS Internet service.
In an effort to correct the problem, I switched operating systems to Firefox.
This did not help the problem.
I use Cox Security system and have checked for viruses and Spyware.
I did a Google search and found one person with what seemed to be the
Same problem on one of the forums. However, no one came up with a fix.

    Any ideas??
    Appreciate any help,
    Ed

Ask your Internet provider to check your line. Are you running through a router? If you are, try connecting directly into the provider's modem and see if that works better. If so, could be a problem with router. I had the same problem up to a few weeks ago.

    Do some housecleaning.
Use the Diskclean system tool in Start/All Programs/Accessories.
    Defrag you system as well.
Also press Ctrl Alt Del and check the Perfomance.
A good idea is to read the article on cleaning up your system (Under Articles and Tutorials) and follow the suggestions. Hijackthis is handy for working out what may be a bottleneck.
other causes can include a missing, too small or corrupt page file, too little spare hard drive space, corrupt or damaged memory.
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.
