Does it have power? Do the lights come on, do you hear anything running? If it has power and tries to start, we can probably do something, if not- we need to figure out why. Charlie

If there are no files you need to save on the computer, that is probably the easiest. The computer is no doubt infected with viruses and spyware from surfing the web without antivirus and antispyware protection. a reformat and reinstall will put it back to the way it was when you bought it, but you need to have good protection to keep it from getting back to like it is now.
All programs you need are available free. You need:
    Anti-virus AVG avaiable here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
(scroll down near bottom of page)
    Spyware Blocker: SpywareBlaster :
    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Firewall (2 way): Zone Alarm Free:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/ZoneAlarm_Free_d388.html

Spyware/Adware removal: SpyBot Search and Destroy:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

Spyware/Adware blocker&remover for XP: Microsoft antiSpyware:
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx

Spyware removal: AdAware Se necessary for Windows 98, optional for XP
    http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

This takes a little effort to set up, but the results are well worth it, and everything is free and updates to stay current. Also, how much memory does the computer have? XP will run on 256mb, but will run better with 512. Once you have it up and running, you may want to consider adding memory if needed. Charlie
