    Default thanks.

i appreciate all your help. i went to the right place this time, (with guidance, of course) and most of the space seems accounted for; the only thing is i have around 2.5 gigs being used for something..... i can't find what it is.

The 2.5 gigs might be hidden partition that was created by the laptop manufacturer. Try this to gain some free space. Right click on My Computer >Properties >System Restore tab. Create a check mark in the box that says 'Turn off System Restore' by clicking on the box >OK. Note, this will remove any Restore points you have .. >OK. Now go back and uncheck the box by clicking on the box and now move the slide bar down to about 6% >OK. This should free up about half a GIG. Now the rest is up to you, you'll need to decide what data files you can do without and either save them to disk or delete them .. also do the same with programs that you no longer use (control panel > Add/Remove programs). Also, try doing a defragmentation, it may help things run smoother.
