Really not much info to go on here. Could be a bad CD ROM or bad IDE cable

CD drives vibrate. Vibration can loosen connections so the first thing to do is check them.
The fact that the process freezes the screen says there is a problem with the drive itself.
Make sure the drive is on the second IDE laed and set as Master. Remove any other drive from that lead.
No go to the driver manufacturer's site and download the latest firmware for your Drive model only.
Rebbot and see if that fixes the problem.
If not Remove it and see if the system works ok.
If so reinstall the drive, access the BIOS settings and in the Boot order place the CD after the hard drive.
    See if that helps.
If not buy a new drive.
Hint. The iseal set up is have the main Hard drive as Master on the primary IDE.
A second hard drive as slave on the same IDE.
A DVD burner set as Master on the secondary IDE and any other CD drive as slave.
When updating frmware for CD drives they must be installed on their own and set as a master. If not you could damage both drives.
The master slave settings are ususally on the back of the drive and entail moving a jumper.
Take control of your life. Leave others to control their own.
