Default Computer not wanting new Memory card

    Hi
I bought a 256MB PC133 144 pin SODIMM 32x8 card for my Sony PCG-FXA63 and I put it in and all that the computer shows is the word SONY on the screen when I press the start button.

Circuit City test shows that I don't have any virus or spyware and I need to put on "Norton Internet Security" but I don't have enough memory.
They didn't have a card so I got one from OEMPCWorld.com

Here is what I have on my computer.
Thankyou for any ideas and help.

    Pepper

Hi Pepperseed - Is this the correct memory? To check you can go to this link - http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listmfgr.asp?cat=RAM
and it will scan your system.Regards.

    Default WrongCard?

    Thanks Galena1
I went to your site and the only difference is it says 32megx64 where I ordered it here it says 32meg x 8 on their site. but your site also says in troubleshooting that the Bios may need updating. Maybe I can update my Bios? What do you think? Do I have the wrong card?

    Thanks

Sorry, it's late - Which did Crucial recommend? They are very reliable and I would choose their recommendation regarding memory, it is their specialist area. Were you advised by PC World to use this particular RAM, or did you choose it yourself of the shelf? I suspect a compatibility issue, but am not 100% sure. I suggest you leave the BIOS until we are sure. I'm logging off now, but there may be input from others.
I'll try to settle the compatibility issue tomorrow, if nobody else has resolved it meanwhile. Regards.

Crucial 32x64 and Oempcworld 32x8. No I didn't figure it out myself. They both have the same way of figuring out which one you need.

    weird.....Thanks

why would you consider fooling with the bios,The system was working you changed the memory and you have problems .put the 32x64 memory modules in as crucial say's to .And take out the old modules.

Hi pepperseed - I believe I'm correct in stating that if you purchase RAM from Crucial based on their recommendation, if you have a problem, you are able to rerurn it. Not sure about PCWorlds policy on this. Regards.
