    Default CD/DVD Drive Error

I get a blue screen error whenever I try to copy files or listen to an audio cd from my CD/DVD Drive. The error is basically:

    Machine Check Exception
    STOP: 0x0000009c (0x00000004, 0x80545FF0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F)
    Beginning dump of physical memory

The problem started when I had to reinstall windows. Before reinstalling windows, and subsequently wiping the hard drive, I had no problems with it. It is all relatively new, and has the most up-to-date drivers. The computer itself seems to work fine, and if I can install a game via repeated install attempts, I can run it without any problems. The error only crops up when listening to an audio CD or installing/copying files from a CD.

    System Specs

Operating System: Windows XP (updated to service pack 2)
    CD/DVD Drive: LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S
    Motherboard: ASUS K8N
    Video Card: Radeon 9600XT
    RAM: 2GB

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions you are able to give.

You don't say what software you use.
It looks like an IRQ conflict.
Try uninstalling the cd drive and reinstalling it.
You can do this either via Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager or physically disconnect the CD.
When windows is reatarted it should find the CD drive as new hardware and install the necessary drivers etc.
