Hi deadstar - The fax and picture viewer is part of the operating system. Your operating system is? Below is for XP
Try this, but set a 'System Restore' point first.

    'Start'>'Run'>Type in regsvr32 /i shimgvm.dll. Click ok.
Note the space between 2 and / and also between i and shim...
Let us know how it goes. Regards.

Go to Start> Run > type in chkdsk /f (note space between k and /)>OK. The instructions will probably be to reboot your PC and let chkdsk do its thing .. you may need your XP disk on hand. This should fix any damaged windows files. Keep us posted.

After running chkdisk to repair any bad areas of the hard drive you will need to run the command below to replace any damaged or missing Windows files. Go to Start, click Run, type the command below and click Ok. You may be asked for your Windows XP Cd.

sfc /scannow (Note the space after sfc)

I have tried to do this too, thinking it might help my problem of not being able to open attachments in Outlook Express, but I just get the following message when I go to install Windows XP.

"Setup cannot continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the version on the CD.

Warning: If you decide to delete the newer version of Windows that is currently installed on your computer, the files and settings cannot be recovered."

So, I wasn't sure where to go from here?
