Outlook Express problem

I'm using windows xp. The problem I'm having is with Outlook Express. When I open an email the first problem I have is when I click on the "Some pictures have been blocked to help prevent the sender from identifying your computer. Click here to download pictures" no pictures appear. The second problem is when I click on a link I receive in an email it won't open my browser and go to that web page. Any ideas what could be wrong?
