Default I need to find a file called aticwdde.dll:ini

I am trying to get a compaq presario w/ windows 98 gold to work with an NEC Multisync xv 17 monitor.
I did a complete system restore with the original disc.
The error in starting program message comes up every time I try and start the computer. is this aticwdde. dll:ini file and my monitor problem related?
All i get is 2 or 16 colors and i am not able to change resolution so I cannot read or access items in a window.
I am not a computer guy.
    Thanks
    Kw.

First, the problem is not with the monitor. Since you just restored your system, you need to reload the graphics driver. The driver should be on a Cd that came with your computer or you can download it from either the motherboard or video card manufactuer (depending on whether it is onboard or a seperate graphics card). That dll file could be part of the graphics driver as ATI does make graphics cards. To see what type of graphics card (or adapter) you have, download Belarc Advisor here: www.belarc.com

It will create a profile of your computer that shows you information about your hardware and software.
