It appears to be associated with HP printer software. Do you perhaps have an hp printer. are you installing a printer?

mci = Media Control Interface, tray app is an application (program) running on start up and appearing in the system tray usually in the bottom right corner of your screen where the time is. Go to Start > Run> type in msconfig >OK. When the configuration window opens, click the Start up tab. Scroll down and see if there are any entries that would either have .mci or Media Control Interface . If you're not sure of what some of the entries are, either do a Google search for them, or copy them down exactly and post them to this thread. We'll let you know what needs to be active.

Note: If Zep's observation that it's HP related, are there any HP entries in the Starup window? If memory serves me, MCI could be an information gathering process used by some companies to help in reporting software problems.
