Default hp C4100 all-in-one printer compatible w/Windows XP? problem

We are having problems installing HP C4100 all-in-one printer, software from CD to Windows XP. Its giving us msgs that if we continue it could cause problems. Says they are incompatible. Installed updated driver. Same problem. Bypassed the error msg, it printed and scanned a couple of times. Tried again a short while later and it gave the error msgs again. We have tried all we know. Any help appreciated.

Windows XP may recognize the printer with the generic drivers. Uninstall the priter software and see if XP will install it with the default printer drivers that come with the OS. Worth a try, if not check HP support site for any known issues with this model and Windows XP and possible solutions. Keep us posted.

Another thought it very well could be an issue caused by SP2, do you have SP2 installed? If so while you are at the HP support site search for known issues with that printer model and SP2.
