    Default Avast Questions

    Hello !

    Two questions about Avast:

    1. When I did a scan with Avast, the results included a list of things Avast couldn't scan because the archive was password protected. But I never received any request for entering a password. How do I go about scanning these password protected areas ?

    2. Also included in the list results of the scan were two CAB files that were corrupted. What are these, and (since I wasn't given the option of repairing them) what should I do ?

    Thanks for any input.

    Scott

I hope I've given enough information above....

Can you give the exact name and locations of the files that Avast has a "problem" with ?

Hi this should answer some of your question

    http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-q....html#idt_1543

When the file scanning is finished, avast! comes up with a number of files listed as "unable to scan", even though I have used a thorough scan. Should I be concerned?

A: Some files are permanently locked by the system or they are in password-protected archives. These files cannot be scanned. It is normal and you don´t have to be worried about that.

Also take a look at othe FAQ concernig Avast and panda scan ect

I was just about to post an answer to bg's question, but the above post by stoney addressed my "password protected" issue perfectly. Thanks !

However, I do still have some results indicating "Unable to scan. CAB archive is corrupted." I did a search at the avast knowledge base site for "CAB" but there were no results.

Some of the corrupted items are in the D partition of my HP desktop ('preload' and 'i386\apps... for example)'; others are in C:\Windows\Software Distribution\Download\S-1-5-18\....

I have attempted to 'repair' these files (right clicking and then choosing "repair"). It says that is repaired successfully, but I believe I have seen the same items in the results more than once.

    Any thoughts ?

    Thanks again !
