    Default wireless network issues

    Hi,

After doing alot scans and installing some software for gray ware protection, I had to restart my computer. After restarting, I noticed that I did not have any connection to the internet. I checked the Belkin wireless network utility and it said that my computer had connection to the router, but no connection to the internet. I never trust that stupid Belkin utility so I looked at the windows wireless network utility icon. It said that the wireless network had limited or no connectivity. I have tried many things including unplugging the usb antenna from the peer computer and unplugging to router for 10 minutes. I still had the same problem. Are there any wireless network experts out there who can help me?

P.S. to put it in simpler terms, my wireless network is not working. HELP!

By belkin utility, are you refering to the WBI? (web based interface, usually accessed via 192.168.0.1 in IE)

normally, if you have a connection to the router, its not your network thats at fault. its the secondary connection from the router to the internet that is having the trouble, so this belkin WBI is where you need to be to resolve it.

common troubles include usernames and passwords being erased from the router, which would probably happen if you unplugged for 10 minutes (or am i thinking of holding the reset button for a while !)

This would be the first thing i'd check, manually check the username, and if your sure you know it, reinsert the password, you should also have some sort of status screen on the router interface to see if it is still connected to the internet. maybe try hitting 'disconnect' then reconect to refresh the routers connection.

if you still have no joy, another possibility is the internal address allocated to your machine could be the same as anothers on the network. this can happen if you have a static internal ip allocated, as many people do for things like email etc. If you have disconnected, then another machine connected, it could have been allocated your internal ip address, then when you reconnected, you forced your static one to aquire the same one, confusing the router and kicking both connections out.

if neither is the trouble, post back and i'll look a little closer for you.

(same goes for if you need extra guidance thru the above steps!)

I acctualy just called belkin tech support (even thoguh I can barley understand them under their strong accents. lol) and they said that my modems ip addres was conflicting with my router ip so now I have to call my isp and get the dccp turned off in my modem otherwise known as bridging the modem. Unfortunly since my my isp is a small private company, I got their answering machine. Does anyone else know how to turn off the dhcp in my modem?
