    Default PC started rebooting

    Hope someone can help me!

Twice the PC has rebooted itself - both times it was unattended so I wasn't performing any tasks on it. I've looked in the event log and a couple of hours earlier the event log has shown this:

The driver has detected a controller error on\device\harddiskd\D

there is a minidump after the pc restarted but I don't know how to open it.

    PC is 14 months old.

    xp service pack 2
2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
    256 kilobyte primary memory cache
    1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    Board: Acer EM61SM/EM61PM
    Bus Clock: 201 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD R01-A2 09/14/2006

473.73 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity

Check out this site gemini http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/booterrGBER22-c.html . Have you added a slave hard drive since buying the pc? Make sure the settings are ok and the connections are secure.

Just to bump this and add a further bit of info. I don't think the two things are connected.

The disk error only occurs when the external hard disk is in operation, it's a 320gig drive and used mainly for storage of music etc

I don't think that the pc is rebooting, I think after a period of inactivity it's logging me out 0 it did this tonight, I logged back in and I was still on the web page where I left it. Now I know I haven't altered anything in any settings but I don't know how to stop this, any suggestions?

    thanks

    Hello gemini
    Lets start simple;
In control pannel click display, then the screensaver tab
In the selection where you choose how many minutes to wait for the screensaver to come on, there is a box: " [] on resume display Welcome screen"
Make sure there is NO check in this box, then click "OK"
    Hope this helps you
The source of your information far outweighs the content

Hi Iamzonker -have now done that, a few weeks ago I changed the desk top theme and in the screen saver options, it was set to come on after 10 mins. So that problem is now sorted.
