Default continuous microsoft update message on shutting down

I am using internet exp. version 7. For the past month on shutting down my
computer i get a message that updates are being loaded and that the computer will shut down automatically when updates are finished. This has always happened but now I seem to have an update every time I attempt to
shut down even if I shut down 4 or 5 times in one day. Its hard to believe that
microsoft has that many daily updates for me over the past month.

Just thought i would ask if anyone else is having this problem and how to clear it up.

    Hi 11moore22,

Try this, Start >Run > type in services.msc > OK > scroll down to Automatic Updates and highlight it > in the left hand widow click Stop the service > OK.

Now go to c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and highlight it > right click > Rename > and add a .old to the name (c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old).

Now, go back to services.msc > highlight Automatic Updates and select Restart the service > OK.

You will probably have to reboot, XP should then create a new c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.

    Keep us posted.
