    Default external harddrive problem

    hi folks , im new on here ,looks like a great site .
    today i dropped my external hard drive , its a MEDION DRIVE AND GO , it is getting power and making some noises but not actually working, i got a msg saying the drive is not formatted , if i format it will i loose all my files etc , thanks in advance , Brian

    Yes, formatting will wipe the drive clean. You can't read anything from the directory?

    when i connect the drive the laptop sees it , but cant access it if that makes sence .

    I'm not familiar with the Median Drive and Go, but if it is like the external drives I have seen- it is possible to take it apart. If you are comfortable with that, it is very possible that you knocked the connection to the drive loose when you dropped it. Double check that all cables and plugs are firmly attached to the drive. If it is a small notebook type drive, it is probably just a multipin connection, make sure it is pushed all the way in. Charlie
